This past weekend, Natina Reed, actress (Bring It On) and member of the newly reunited girl group Blaque, was killed after being hit by a car while crossing a street in Atlanta, GA. Once a protege of the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, Reed was the group’s spitfire MC, a feature that fed the comparisons to their predecessors, TLC.
Is it strange that both Blaque and TLC will suffer similar fates as groups? Having to go on as duos where they were once trios? What happened to all the girl groups? Are they no longer relevant in today’s music scene?
I don’t know. What’s undeniable, however, is at their height, Blaque did offer up some pretty successful R&B tinged pop smashes. Check out two of the biggest below:
“808″ – From The Self Titled Debut album Blaque, – 1998
“Bring It All To Me” (featuring JC Chazez of N*Sync) – From The Self Titled Debut Album Blaque, 1999
Reed is survived by a ten year old son, Tren Brown, whose father is rapper Kurupt.
