When I think of some of the most underrated albums in recent history, the first one that comes to mind is Solange Knowles‘ 2008 project “Sol-Angel and the Hadley Street Dreams”.
People didn’t get it. It was trippy. It took cues from the music of the sixties. Oh, and then there’s the thing about Solange being the little sister of the biggest pop star in the world. The comparisons to Beyonce were really unfortunate because they’ve each carved their own lanes as artists, and as women in general.
Four years later, after taking a break from recording and writing her own music, Solange is preparing for the release of a new project called “Losing You” which will be released via Trouble Records. Last week, she released a teaser trailer for the album’s title track (which was produced by Dev Hynes aka Blood Orange,) featuring a good old fashioned game of suck and blow. If you don’t know what that is… watch below:
According to Solange & director Alan Del Rio Ortiz, the video was inspired by the 90′s cult classic “Clueless“. One thing they got right was the fashion, as even this short clip is dripping with fabulousness from the likes of DVF, Kenzo, Opening Ceremony & J. Crew. Check out this exclusive look behind the scenes of the shoot courtesy of MTV Style.
“Losing You” the single + video will premiere digitally next Tuesday 10/2. You can be sure that we’ll have it for you when it drops, so stay tuned!
