What do Michael Jackson, U2, Paul McCartney, 50 Cent, Lady Gaga, and now Justin Beiber have in common?
Besides all being multi-platinum international icons, the one unifying commonality is that they have all been transformed into characters on the lovable yet extremely funny (and sometimes politically satirical) cartoon we as Americans have grown to love over the last 27 years.
Yep you guessed it… The Simpson’s! Now the Biebs has joined the exclusive ranks of artists who’ve graced the show. The news officially came Tuesday after the “As Long As You Love Me” singer accidentally spilled the beans on Twitter about his upcoming cameo with Marge, Homer and the gang.
Over the years, appearing on the Simpson’s has become sort of prestigious honor in the world of showbiz.
Reports by Entertainment Weekly state that 18 year old Beiber broke the news to his nearly 27 million followers on Tuesday, writing, “just did a voice over for the SIMPSONS!!! #swaggy.” The tweet has since been deleted. Although the news was scrubbed, it was later confirmed by Simpson’s Executive Producer, Al Jean, that the singer will play himself in an upcoming episode.
“He tries to get into a talent show that Bart is playing piano in and they won’t admit him,” explained Jean. “Draw your own conclusions.” Jean warned fans that they should have their DVR set to stun, since the drop-in is more a cameo than a starring role. “But all of his fans should watch every minute of the show, before and after he’s on,” Jean joked of the episode titled “The Fabulous Faker Boy.”
There has not been a specific air-date, but the Bieber episode is slated to air next year, 2013 as part of the show’s 24th season, beginning September 30.
