There’s something about Diggy Simmons that makes me believe that he will be the most famous member of his already famous family. That’s saying a lot… because his father and uncle are legends in their own right. Whatever “it” is, Diggy’s got it on lock.

You may remember this story. A young rap star takes his talents to tv to star in his own show, and then went on to become the biggest movie star in the world…? That’s Will Smith (a.k.a. The Fresh Prince,) if you were wondering. Diggy has the same capability, and will more than likely get that same shot with his latest project.

According to Deadline, BET has given the green light to a Salim and Mara Brock Akil produced movie/backdoor pilot (which means that it will premiere in movie format, and could be picked up as a series later) starring Diggy Simmons. The project is said to be reminiscent of HBO’s Entourage… an edgy look at the lives of a group of young friends on their journey to the top. Diggy will play “Blake”, a rising star in the world of blogging, and the story will follow he and his friends, including Teyana Taylor, who will play Tae, Blake’s ex girlfriend and twin sister of his best friend Manny, as well as Bria Murphy (Eddie’s daughter, who is currently the face of Dark & Lovely) who will play Manny’s girlfriend Nia.

I think this will be a great opportunity for all involved. The project is set to shoot later this year and will premiere as a part of BET Premiere Cinema, next year.
