In one of the most anticipated interviews of late, Rihanna sat down in her native Barbados to share her story with Oprah, on OWN‘s “Next Chapter”. It was by far the most candid interview I’ve ever seen the 24-year-old pop star give… which truly left me with a new found respect for her.
In their discussion, Oprah and Rihanna touched on many things, including how she rose to fame, her relationship with her late grandmother, and probably most notably, her relationship with former beau Chris Brown. If you haven’t seen it, go ahead and check it out below:
I think one of the most encouraging moments in the discussion came toward the end, when Oprah noted that Rihanna’s forgiveness of Chris’ actions was not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength and willingness to move on from the situation. Unforgiving hearts only lead to contempt, and you can’t truly fully be healed if you don’t let that go. But… let me not get to preaching over here.
Next week on Oprah’s Next Chapter, the queen of all media sits down with two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Gabrielle Douglas and her mom. Sidenote: Oprah is doing a good job of pulling in the ratings that she needed to save her network. I think that by tapping into a younger demo, and coming up with the interviews that the viewing public has come to expect from her, OWN is going to be profitable very soon.
