Last week, Beyoncé posted a somewhat cryptic message on her website that read “Leave Your Footprint On 19 August 2012″.
While many fans hoped that this was advance notice on a new musical release, it was really foreshadowing for something much greater.
In a press release today, she announced her involvement in this year’s United Nations sponsored World Humanitarian Day, which will take place on August 19th. As a part of the I Was Here campaign, (presumably named after her song of the same title) she’s inviting people to do their part by doing something nice for someone else, and sharing the experience by digitally “checking in” . By doing so, participants will have a hand in creating good headlines all around the globe.
Here’s what she had to say:
“We all see the headlines and we think what can I really do to help?”, said Beyoncé.
“World Humanitarian Day is an opportunity for all of us to work together to make a difference.
This is our time to leave our mark on the world and show that we were here and we care.”
