One of the biggest films of the late 80′s being revived by Lifetime networks, with an interesting twist.
Steel Magnolias, originally released in 1989, starring Sally Fields, is getting a makeover this year. Queen Latifah leads an all star (all black) cast that includes a plethora of highly respected actresses. Here’s a brief synopsis:
Like the original, the Lifetime movie follows the lives of six Louisiana women, M’Lynn (Latifah), Ouiser (Alfre Woodard), Clairee (Phylicia Rashad), Truvy (Jill Scott), Annelle (Adepero Oduye) and Shelby (Condola Rashad), as they deal with life’s trials and celebrations — while, of course, congregating at Truvy’s beauty shop. Also, like the 1989 movie, M’Lynn’s daughter will be diabetic and pregnant. And based on the trailer below, there’s a chance it could be a virtually scene-by-scene remake — at least when it comes to the dialogue. [SOURCE]
The remake is scheduled to air sometime this year on Lifetime. For now, watch the two minute trailer:
