Shockwaves flew through “Black Twitter” when Tia Mowry announced that she would not be returning to BET‘s hit show “The Game” for it’s sixth season to reprise her leading role as Melanie Barnett-Davis. Now, BET has confirmed that both she and her on camera husband Pooch Hall (who plays Derwin Davis on the show) would not be a part of the cast going forward. Read what they had to say below:
After five seasons on ‘The Game,’ Pooch Hall and Tia Mowry will not return as regular cast members on season six on BET Networks. As a result of Pooch’s involvement on a new project, BET is in the process of reworking the casting and storyline of the show. That said, we hope both Pooch and Tia will make several guest appearances.
While we (will) miss the incredible adventures of Melanie and Derwin on ‘The Game,’ we appreciate all of their hard work, the laughs and wish them both the best on their future endeavors. [SOURCE]
No reasoning was given for Mowry’s departure, adding fuel to the rumors that the split was due to salary issues.
Because Melanie & Derwin were truly the cornerstone of the show, it’s hard to see how the show could even successfully continue without their storyline. Season 5 has been hit & miss with fans, with many complaining (via blog comment sections & Twitter) that the show has gone downhill since being picked up by BET.
Sound off: Do you think ‘The Game’ will survive without Melanie & Derwin?
