Adam Yauch, 1/3 of pioneering rap group The Beastie Boys passed away today at he age of 47. Yauch, also known as MCA, was diagnosed with cancer in 2009. The illness forced him to sit out of the group’s induction to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last month, and also delayed the completion of the trio’s latest project Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2.
Yauch founded the Beastie Boys with Mike Diamond and Adam Horowitz in 1979, and went on to become one of the most influential forces in hip-hop history.
